Food Security

COVID-19 directly impacts public health and indirectly impacts food systems. Our goal is to examine the impact of COVID-19 on food supply chains and food security. For example, we study the relationships between food production, labor shortages, food supply chains, commodity gaps, household food security, and loss of income and commodity price shocks. Our goal is to understand these impacts and identify which communities are particularly vulnerable to these shocks.

Food Supply Chains

Impacts of COVID-19 on household food security have been significant. Food insecurity outcomes for low income and hispanic families were worse than any other racial group. Higher proportion of hispanic households in Arizona have became newly food insecure due to the pandemic.
